Charter Yacht Shows: News!
Chartering in the Virgins has never been better! The November US Virgin Islands and Tortola BVI boat shows were well turned out---with many new single hull and catamarans making their entrance into the chartering world of the Virgin Islands. Boats were gleaming, crews were all smiles, culinary contests were in full swing...and the whole fleet of crews along with charter brokers (including yours truly) were hosted at a gala party at the mansion of Governor David Pearey of the British Virgin Islands. A grand thank you from their government for bringing happy people to their shores.
Several beautiful new sailboats have entered the professional charter yacht fleet...most of these (if not on charter) will join in attendance at the Spring Fling Charter Yacht Show, from May 3 to 6, 2007 in Tortola, BVI. Slip Aweigh will attend of course and is anxious to view these new arrivals and get to know the crews so we can present them to you with our usual first hand information. It always pays to Ask a Local! Can't wait to share! |
| YACHTSMAN'S TRIVIA |
| It is unlucky to kill a gull. |
Said to represent the souls of lost sailors....
Here in the Virgin Islands, we sometimes wish this weren’t so...And many visitors in the winter and fall don’t even notice we have no gulls here!! Until.....The laughing gull is a seasonal visitor...you can tell the winter time is ending when the raucous black-headed laughing gulls show up here around the end of March. When you see one, brace yourself, thousands more will be here soon. They come from unknown areas of Planet Earth for the express purpose of laying their eggs, hatching and rearing their young...then, by around August, they leave to points unknown.Whew... What this does to a normally fearless food searcher is to turn them into BBQ robbing, potato chip eating, dingy “decorating” hellions who will stop at almost nothing to get a meal. So, through the spring months, watch those steaks on the grill! and hold onto your snorkels when cruising by some beaches....they can make your excursion interesting! |
